A vibrant green high protein plant-based super green smoothie in a gold rimmed glass cup on a white surface, thick and creamy in texture.

If there is one smoothie recipe that deserves a permanent spot in your morning routine, it is this one. This plant-based super green smoothie is our go-to way to start the day feeling genuinely nourished, energized, and ready for whatever comes next — and it has become one of the biggest staples in our household for good reason. It looks incredibly green and intimidating in the glass. And then you take one sip and suddenly you are mentally transported to a beach somewhere warm and tropical, sipping something that tastes like it came from a five star resort smoothie bar. Except this one has way more nutrition than anything you would ever find poolside.

The secret to why this smoothie is so extraordinarily good for you starts with our High Protein Plant-Based Smoothie Base — the nutritional foundation we use in every single smoothie recipe on Plant-Based Papa. The base alone brings nearly 20 grams of protein, over 100% of your daily B vitamin targets, 5.9 grams of iron, over 100% of your daily omega-3 requirements, and impressive amounts of fiber, folate, calcium, magnesium, and potassium before you even add a single green ingredient. It is genuinely one of the most nutrient dense smoothie bases you can build on, and it makes every smoothie we make exponentially more nutritious than anything you would find at a juice bar or smoothie chain.

On top of that incredible base we add frozen tropical fruit — think mango, pineapple, and papaya — which brings natural sweetness, a bright tropical flavor, and a generous dose of vitamin C and additional fiber that supports digestion, immune health, and sustained energy throughout the morning. The frozen fruit also gives the smoothie that thick, creamy, almost ice cream-like consistency that makes it feel indulgent even though it is anything but.

And then there are the greens — spinach or kale, your choice. Now before you click away, hear us out. You genuinely cannot taste them. Not even a little bit. The tropical fruit and smoothie base completely mask any bitterness or earthiness, and what you are left with is a smoothie that tastes purely tropical and refreshing with absolutely zero evidence that you just blended a massive handful of leafy greens into your breakfast. But your body knows they are in there — and it is very grateful. Spinach and kale are two of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet, loaded with calcium, iron, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, magnesium, and powerful antioxidants that support everything from bone health to brain function to immune defense.

Put it all together and you have a plant-based super green smoothie that tastes like a tropical vacation and nourishes your body like a multivitamin. It is the kind of recipe that makes you feel genuinely good about what you are putting in your body first thing in the morning — and once it becomes part of your routine, starting the day without it just feels wrong. This is the smoothie that earns its place on your breakfast table every single day.

Notes & Tips

  • We recommend using yellow tropical fruit like mango, pineapple or even papaya because it really lets the green from the kale or spinach shine!
  • You can really use any fruit of your choice just know it might impact the color of the smoothie.
  • You can use a mix between kale and spinach if you'd like or choose one or the other. We're really just using them to increase the iron of the smoothie, which makes it over 100% of your daily recommended value!
